LAURA TEACHOUT

Laura Gene (Baier) Teachout, born on August 12, 1933, in Wheeling, WV, peacefully passed away on December 15, 2024, at the age of 91. She parted with this world at The Pearl Nursing Home in Fort Mill, SC, after a courageous battle with dementia.

Laura was a woman of great compassion and spirit, dedicated to serving others throughout her life. Her career began as a secretary at the Scottish Rite and Blaw Knox Company, where she demonstrated diligence and professionalism. She later worked in customer service at Burger Chef and Hardees, always ready with a warm smile and kind word for everyone. Her role as an advocate with the Wheeling Sexual Assault Help Center highlighted her profound commitment to supporting those in need.

A lover of people and animals, Laura found joy in helping others and cherished spending time at the beach and traveling. Her faith was a cornerstone of her life, and she was an active member of St. Alphonsus Catholic Church in Wheeling, WV, and the Christian Mothers. Laura’s generous heart also led her to volunteer at church events, particularly enjoying the camaraderie of church fish fries.

Preceded in death by her loving parents, Karl and Beulah (Eimer) Baier, and her beloved husband of over 58 years, Bernard Teachout, who passed away in 2014, Laura leaves behind a legacy of love and kindness. She is survived by her four children: Kathy, Bob, Paul (Debbie), and Mike (Debbie) Teachout, three grandchildren, Amanda (Wesley) Hall, Jennifer (Nathan Blair) Teachout and Joseph Teachout and two great grandchildren, Weston and Ainsley Hall who will forever treasure her memory and carry on her legacy.

Family and friends are invited to celebrate Laura’s remarkable life on Saturday, December 28, 2024. Visitation will be held from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Altmeyer Funeral Home, 1400 Eoff St., Wheeling, WV. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church, with Father John Soplinski as Celebrant. Laura will be laid to rest at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Garden Mausoleum.
