Robert F. Roberts, age 78, of New Martinsville, WV, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend, passed away peacefully at home where he wanted to be, to go HOME, surrounded by loved ones; now standing in the presence of the Lord healed, without pain.
Robert was born on May 31st, 1946, to Charles E. Roberts and Gail (Mercer) Roberts. He was a graduate of Hundred High School. He proudly served his country as a United States Navy Plane Captain on the USS Independence from 1964 to 1968 and a proud member of the American Legion post #28. On July 22nd, 1968, he was united in marriage with Shirley M. Russell (Norris). To this union were blessed with three wonderful children. Robert retired from Bayer in 2002.
Anyone who knew Robert knew he was a character. He was witty, ornery and knew how to make people laugh. Robert's sense of humor and kindness will be remembered by all who knew him. He enjoyed playing cards and games, doing jigsaw puzzles, watching westerns and sports, reminiscing of his travels and spending time with family and friends. He was a faithful member of Immanuel Baptist Church.
Robert is survived by his loving wife, Shirley Roberts of 56 years; brother, Thomas Roberts, Larry D. (Kate) Roberts; three children, Robert M. (Jeni) Roberts of Edgewater, MD, Melissa (Willis) Breen of Buckhannon, WV, Kevin J. (Kristi) Roberts of St. Augustine, FL; twelve grandchildren, Lexi, Lindsay, Riley, Victoria, Adeline, Rose, Vladan, Luka, Katie, Cody, Dylan, Chase; and beloved cat, Olivia, "Livvy".
In addition to his parents, Robert was preceded in death by his sister, Gail Darlene Stewart of Fredericksburg, VA, and his brother, Charles H. Roberts of Gallatin, TN.
Family will receive friends on Monday, from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm and Tuesday from 11:00 am until time of service at 1:00 pm with Pastor Eric Vincent officiating and Honor Guard will conduct military service, at Grisell Funeral Home and Crematory, 751 Third Street, New Martinsville, WV.
