SAMUEL CERRA

Samuel P. Cerra, 77, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away at home on December 15, 2024. He was born on March 17, 1947, the son of the late Samuel and Angela Cerra of Wheeling, WV. Sam was proud of his Italian American Heritage.

He is survived by his wife, Karen; his son, Chad (Erica); his grandchildren, Whitney and Carson; and his sister, Patti Gantzer of Columbus, OH. His love for his family was boundless, and his pride in them was evident to all who knew him.

Sam was a graduate of the 1965 class of Wheeling Central Catholic and a graduate of West Liberty University. He was a sales professional and spent his career working for Hershey Foods and Panhandle Cleaning and Restoration. He served many years on the school board for Wheeling Central Catholic. Sam helped organize and served as President of the local chapter of the American Diabetes Association.

In 1973, Sam married Karen, the love of his life, with whom he shared many happy years and countless cherished memories. He embodied the values of integrity and character and was known for his kindness and thoughtfulness.

Sam was an avid follower of the West Virginia Mountaineers and Wheeling Central athletics. More than anything, he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, many of whom he had befriended since childhood.

A Memorial Mass for Sam will take place on Monday, December 23, 2024, at 10:00 am at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church, 2111 Market St., Wheeling, with a Committal Service to directly follow at the Mt. Calvary Cemetery Columbarium.
