William Byram Baum, aged 77, passed away peacefully on December 30, 2024, at Select Specialty Hospital in Wheeling, WV, after a long illness. Born on December 12, 1947, in Wheeling, WV, he devoted his life to hard work and service to his country.
Mr. Baum was a dedicated professional, having built a career in road construction, where he excelled as a soil tester and compactor tester. His strong work ethic and commitment to quality were evident throughout his career.
A proud veteran, Mr. Baum served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War, where he earned many commendations for his service. He carried the values of duty, honor, and respect throughout his life.
He was a member of the McMechen First Church of God, where he found community and faith. His contributions to the church and community will be fondly remembered.
Mr. Baum was preceded in death by his parents, Byram and Olive (McCullough) Baum, and his brother, Robert Baum. He is survived by his brother, Thomas (Deborah) Baum of Benwood, WV, sister-in-law, Ginger Baum, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins who will remember him with love and gratitude.
Friends and family are invited to pay their respects during visitation on Thursday, January 2, 2025, from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Altmeyer Funeral Home, McMechen & Benwood Chapel. A service celebrating his life will be held on Friday, January 3, 2025, from 10:00 AM until the time of service at 11:00 AM, officiated by Rev. Dr. Mitch Johnston.
