FRANCIS SZAFRAN

Francis Stanley “Saff” Szafran, 87, passed away at Liza’s Place in Wheeling, WV, on January 23, 2025. Born on February 10, 1937 in Wheeling, Saff was a devoted family man and a respected member of the community.

He worked diligently at C&P Telephone Company for 30 years before retiring. Post-retirement, Saff continued working as a self-employed telephone contractor at Bayer Chemical Corporation.

Saff was a man of varied interests. He was an avid golfer, hunter, and fisherman. His talent extended indoors as well; he was a gifted woodworker and carpenter, known for his precision craftsmanship creating beautiful pieces that he generously shared with family and friends.

Saff was Catholic by faith and cherished his weekly lunches with friends, a testament to his warm and sociable nature.

He is preceded in death by his beloved parents, Joseph and Thelma (Anderson) Szafran; his cherished daughter, Christine Szafran; his brothers, Walter and Richard Szafran; and his father and mother-in-law, Ralph and Hilda (Bowman) Conner.

Saff’s memory will be forever treasured by his loving wife of over 65 years, Jo Ann (Conner) Szafran; his devoted son, Jeff Szafran; his granddaughter, Johnna (Zach) Stevey ; his grandson, Francis Szafran (Dawn Killen); his great-grandson, Daemon Szafran; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins who held him dear.

Family and friends are cordially invited to pay their respects during visitation on Monday, January 27, 2025, from 11 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 1 p.m., officiated by Pastor Mark Harris. Services will be held at Altmeyer Funeral Home, Lutes & Kirby-Vance Chapel, 118 Grant Avenue, Moundsville, with interment to follow at Ebenezer Cemetery on Roberts Ridge Rd., Moundsville.
