MARY LOU DeFILLIPPO
Mary Lou DeFillippo, age 95, passed away at Cumberland Pointe Care Center, St. Clairsville, Ohio, on January 16, 2025. She was a true West Virginian, born Mary Lou Feinler in Wheeling May, 25 1929 and lived there all her life.
Mary Lou attended Wheeling High School, then went on to graduate summa cum laude from West Liberty University. She taught first grade until her husband, Samuel DeFillippo, was appointed Principal of Wheeling Park High School, at which time she retired to avoid any conflict of interest.
Mary Lou was a listener rather than a talker. She had many friends and numerous talents and hobbies. She will be sorely missed by her friends and family.
Mary Lou was preceded in death by her father, Louis Feinler and her mother and stepfather Madeleine and Robert Dyer, all of Wheeling, and her husband of 56 years, Samuel DeFillippo. She is survived by her sister, Elizabeth Feinler, and her brother, Robert Dyer and his partner Claudia Fields as well as her niece Amy Brown, and Amy’s children Laura and Sean Chavez.
Her remains will be interred at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Wheeling. Due to the weather conditions and distance of relatives, no public ceremony or funeral will be held at this time. Instead a celebration of her life will be held in the Spring.
Please share condolences with the family and consider planting a memorial tree in Mary Lou’s memory at www.altmeyerfuneral homes.com.
