MICHAEL BLACKWELL

Michael Todd Blackwell, 49, of Wheeling, WV passed away Tuesday, February 25, 2025 at Wheeling Hospital – WVU.

He was born in Wheeling on November 19, 1975, a son of William “Bill” and Bonnie (Minear) Blackwell. A Christian by faith, Michael was a 1994 John Marshall High School graduate and continued his education at West Liberty State College, graduating in 1997. He then moved on to Wheeling Jesuit University where he graduated with his Master’s Degree in Accounting. After graduation he became a Certified Public Accountant, serving as President of the Northern Panhandle Chapter of CPAs. For 20 years Michael also taught at West Liberty University as an Instructor of Accounting, serving as the department chair twice and achieving the Faculty Service Award in 2008. Teaching was a true highlight of Michael’s life, he relished in helping students and providing guidance over the years.

Michael was known for his giving and charitable nature. He was a member of the Wheeling Lions Club, serving twice as President, once as the Zone Chairman and in 2016 was awarded the Leonard Jarrett Award, an honor that he was extremely proud of.

He was an avid traveler, traveling to 79 countries and 48 states. Michael enjoyed taking his students on multiple trips through school and taking time away to see the world when he could.

Michael is preceded in death by his brother Terry Blackwell and both his maternal and paternal grandparents.

In addition to his parents he is survived by his son, Billy Blackwell; his loving girlfriend, Nicole Lizon; several aunts, uncles, cousins and many close friends.

Family and friends will be received Friday, March 28, 2025 from 5-8 pm and Saturday, March 1, from 11 am until time of service at 1 pm at Altmeyer Funeral Homes, Lutes & Kirby-Vance Chapel, 118 Grant Ave., Moundsville. Interment will be held at Riverview Cemetery.
