TERESA SMITH
Teresa Ann Smith, born on April 8, 1955, at Reynolds Hospital, passed away on February 21, 2025, surrounded by her family and friends at WVU Wheeling Medical Park, at the age of 69. A devoted and cherished member of her community, Teresa will be profoundly missed by all who knew her.
Teresa spent her professional career with dedication, retiring from the West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources (WVDHHR). In her personal life, she found joy in watching Mountaineer Football, playing video poker, and baking Christmas cookies, passions that brought warmth and laughter to those around her.
A woman of faith and community spirit, Teresa was an active member of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary, Blake Brothers Post 46, and the Ladies Auxiliary of the Benwood Volunteer Fire Department. As a parishioner of St. John’s Parish, her commitment to service and kindness was evident in all her endeavors. She will always be remembered for her acts of service to her family, friends, and her community.
Teresa is preceded in death by her beloved parents, Al and Hazel Smith, her brothers Dennis and Patrick Smith, her sister Mary Ratliff, and her nephew Patrick Samuel Smith. She leaves behind her loving partner of 38 years, Rob Nasworth, and her devoted daughter Bridget Carnahan, along with her son-in-law Tim Carnahan. Her legacy continues through her granddaughter Mia Jordan, grandson Malik Jordan, Jacob Carnahan, Matthew Carnahan (Jess) and Alex Carnahan (Paige) and her cherished great-grandchildren, Landon Jordan and Nora Carnahan. Teresa is also survived by her sisters Paula and Elizabeth Smith, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
Friends and family are invited to pay their respects during visitation on Thursday, February 27, 2025, from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm, with a Vigil Service at 7:30 pm at Altmeyer Funeral Home, McMechen & Benwood Chapel. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, February 28 at 11 am at St. John’s Catholic Church, 622 Main St, Benwood, WV 26031. In lieu of flowers, the family memorial donations can be made to the American Legion Blake Brothers Post 46, C/O Mike Smith 412 Waters St. Benwood, WV 26031. By doing so this will continue Teresa’s legacy of service and dedication to her community.
Teresa Ann Smith’s life was a testament to love, compassion, and unwavering support for those she held dear. Her memory will forever be cherished in the hearts of her family and friends.
