Dixie Virginia Davis, 85, of Wheeling, West Virginia, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, February 7, 2025.
She was born on July 31, 1939 in Wheeling, where she lived all her life.
Dixie was married to Roy R. Davis for 67 years. Both have described meeting each other as the luckiest day of their lives. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother and great-grand mother. She did caring acts every day for her family, but her specialty was making holidays memorable family events. Dixie had various jobs during her life, including working with her mother-in- law, Wanda Davis, at a dry cleaners and working at Wheeling College. Dixie lived in Mozart for nearly 60 years. She was a member of the Lutheran church there and for many years belonged to a card club of couples living in Mozart. Dixie also enjoyed playing cards with family, spending many evenings with her sisters and their children. For years, she belonged to a bowling league as well.
Remembering her dedication to family are her husband; four children, Diane Davis, Cynthia (Willie) Welsh, Eileen Davis (Ron Peterson) and Daniel Davis; nine grandchildren, Erica Trump (Kendell Jillson), Renee Trump, Michael Davis, Stephanie McKinley, Clinton Calvert, Amanda Welsh, Cody Welsh, Ava Peterson and Kevin Peterson; and three great-grandchildren, Zane Smith, Michael Davis and Isaiah McKinley. Dixie is also survived by her sisters, Mildred Watkins and Helen Mays; brothers, Frank (Donna) Davis, Raymond (Beverly) Davis, Bailey Davis and Rick (Diane) Moore; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Peter Varner and Mary Hooper (Varner) Moore; sisters, Willa Mae Zavolta, Bessie Terhlen and Dorothy Mealey; and brother, William Hooper.
On Saturday, March 29, 2025, there will be a visitation for family and friends from 12:30 to 1:50 p.m. with a funeral service following at 2 p.m. at Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church, 2 Richmond Ave., Wheeling, WV. Rev. Deborah Gable will be providing the service.
