MICHAEL KANICK

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Michael "Crash" Kanick, who departed this life on March 13, 2025, at the age of 70, at WVU Medicine – Wheeling Hospital after a short illness. Born on May 15, 1954, in Wheeling, West Virginia, he brought light and warmth to all those around him throughout his life.

Crash was a dedicated journeyman electrician, proudly serving with IBEW #141 for an impressive 50 years. His passion for home projects and renovations was only surpassed by his love for teaching others how to work with their hands. Known for his kind and giving nature, Mike touched the lives of many, always willing to lend a hand or share his vast knowledge.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Stephen and Julia Kanick; his brother, Stephen W. Kanick; brother-in-law, Robert DeMeritt; and sister- in-law, Edith Rice. Michael leaves behind a loving family, including his devoted wife of 25 years, Tammy Kanick; his step-children, Jeffery (Kristee) Hastings, Jr., Joshua (Tiffany) Hastings, and Lacie (Ryan) Ferrell; his cherished step-grandchildren, Gavin, Grant, Olivia, Tyler, Taylor, Alexis, and Allie; and his parent-in-laws, Clair and Gladys DeMeritt.

He is also survived by his sister, Sandra Harsh; sister-in-law, Sharon Kanick; nephews, Greg (Anna) Harsh, Chad (Suzanne) Kanick, Nick (Belinda) Rice; nieces, Magan (Trevor) Delaney and Jennifer (Steve) Coperich; and great nieces and nephews, Brooklyn, Amara, Luke, Grace, Kaitlyn and Nicolas. Michael will be deeply missed by his lifelong friends, Mike and Paula McDermott, as well as several aunts, many cousins, and his beloved fur-babies, Oscar and Midnight.
