William "Bill" Yourkovich, a devoted family man and dedicated member of the Wheeling community, passed away peacefully on March 10, 2025 at Peterson Rehabilitation Hospital in Wheeling. Born on October 20, 1944, in Wheeling, West Virginia, Bill was 80 years old at the time of his passing.
A lifelong resident of Wheeling, Bill was known for his hard work and talent in the field of painting and drywall finishing. He was the proud owner and operator of Y&Y Painting, Co. Bill loved driving around the Ohio Valley to show and talk about the places where he worked on painting and drywall projects.
Bill was also deeply passionate about life beyond his work. An avid bowler and fisherman, he cherished time spent at the bowling alley and casting a line in the water. He was extremely proud of his induction into the Wheeling Bowling Association Hall of Fame in 2021.
He was a member of the IOLA Club in South Wheeling, located on the banks of the Ohio River where he grew up. Talking about winning a catfish tourney, telling a fishing tale or two, or listing his bowling accomplishments was something you would often hear in his conversations.
Bill's sense of patriotism was exemplified through his brave and honorable service to our nation in the U.S. Navy, where he served aboard the USS Mount McKinley. His military service was a testament to his character, courage, and unwavering dedication.
He is preceded in death by his parents, William and Nellie (Gostyla) Yourkovich, Sr.; his beloved son, Tyler Yourkovich; and his brothers, Joseph and Richard Yourkovich.
Bill leaves behind his loving wife of 56 years, Annette (Zitzmann) Yourkovich; his son, Jeff (Casey) Yourkovich; sisters, Nancy (Ken) Lloyd and Karen (Henry) Kozlowski; brothers, Steve (Lynn) and Edward Yourkovich; as well as many nieces, nephews, and countless friends who will dearly miss his kindness and generosity.
Family and friends are invited to attend the visitation on Saturday, March 22, 2025, from 2-5 PM at Altmeyer Funeral Home, Elm Grove Chapel, located at 154 Kruger Street, Wheeling. The funeral service will immediately follow at 5 PM at the Elm Grove Chapel, complete with Full Military Honors rendered by the Moundsville Veterans Honor Guard, recognizing Bill's lifetime of service and sacrifice.
