CHARLES HOHMAN

Charles Thomas “Tom” Hohman, 87, of Triadelphia, passed away peacefully surrounded by the love and prayers of his family in Wheeling Hospital on March 31, 2025.
Tom was born in September 1937, the sixth of 10 children born to Bernard and Irene Hohman. He was a very proud member of Local 132 – International Union of Operating Engineers for 60 years and a life-long member of St. Vincent de Paul Parish. He was an outdoorsman who thought that the best views of life were enjoyed from the back of his horse or standing in a stream with his fly rod or following his bluetick hounds on a trail. Sitting on his porch watching the hummingbirds while visiting with his family and friends was also a favorite pastime. He loved his farm, often working from sunrise to sunset. What most people would view as hard work, Tom viewed as enjoyment. At the end of the day, he found contentment in knowing he had put in a good day’s work. He had a knack for making things grow and his vegetable garden was always in “blue ribbon” form.
Tom had an exceptionally kind heart and was a wonderful and loving husband, Dad and father-in-law. He was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Sue Oliver Hohman, and is loved and missed dearly by his daughters Heidi Hohman, Julie and Leo (son-in-law) Meier and Jodie Hohman. He and Sue built a wonderful life together and created a beautiful and loving home. Tom provided well for his family and was never afraid of a hard day’s work. His daughters were blessed to never have to look beyond either end of the family dinner table to find their heroes.
Tom and Sue were a match made in Heaven, and the family knows beyond a doubt that they are together once again.
Tom was preceded in death by his brothers Paul and Richard Hohman and sisters Catherine Brieding, Eleanor Baller, Josie Hohman and Margie Burke. He is survived by his brothers Jim and Marlene Hohman and Leo and Ingrid Hohman; sister Sally Semancik; sisters-in-law Jean Hohman, Toni and Fred Bader, Carol McPhilliamy and Peggy and Tom Dailer. He was known lovingly as “Uncle Tommy” to his numerous nieces and nephews. He loved his large family, especially nephews Rick Hohman, Mike Hohman, Tim Hohman, Butch Brieding, T.J. Dailer, John Bodkin and Noah Patterson who were always there especially as Tom grew older.
Sincere appreciation to Dr. Joe Donzella and the staff of Advanced Family Practice, Dr. Steve Timms and Dr. Leo, Tom’s “main man” and loving son-in-law. The family wishes to thank Uncle Leo and Aunt Ingrid for their prayers, love, many phone calls and support across the miles.
Friends will be received Saturday, April 5, 2025 from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Altmeyer Funeral Home, 154 Kruger Street, Wheeling, WV and will gather for a Memorial Mass at Our Lady of Seven Dolors, Triadelphia, WV following the visitation.
Donations may be made to the charity of choice. In memory of Tom, please take the time to listen to the birds, watch the hummingbirds, plant a garden, walk the West Virginia hills and as he told his daughters and Leo during his final days, “enjoy your life because I sure did.”
