SARAH RILEY SCHEINERT

Sarah Paull Riley Scheinert, of Pittsburgh, PA, passed away April 22, 2025.
She was born April 30, 1987, the daughter of Arch W. Riley Jr. and Sally Goodspeed Riley. She attended Wheeling Park High School where she was a member of the National Honors Society and was graduated from Edinboro University in 2011, where she and her husband started dating. She married Mark Thomas Scheinert in 2019.
After college, Sarah worked at Cabela’s in Wheeling, WV until she moved to Pittsburgh, PA where she most recently worked for UPMC and continued to be very active in her community. She was a manager for the Pittsburgh Mighty Penguins Sled Hockey Team where she enjoyed cheering on her husband and their friends and helped partner the Mighty Pens for “Inclusion on Ice” events, with the Augusta Levy Learning Center, Easterseals Rehabilitation Center, the Wheeling Nailers, and the Wheeling Lighteningbirds. Growing up, she loved swimming and was an avid skier with Three Rivers Adaptive Sports, where she first met Mark and participated in a Disabled Sports USA ski event in Colorado. Easterseals helped establish the foundation of Sarah’s life, and she served as an Ambassador and continued to give back and volunteer for telethons throughout her life. Sarah was always active in the Wheeling community, volunteering for the Wheeling Symphony Orchestra and Ohio County Animal Shelter. She spent her summers at the Spina Bifida Camp of Western Pennsylvania, with many beloved friends.
Sarah was a light in the world and an amazing wife, cat-mom, daughter, sister, aunt, niece, cousin, and friend. She possessed a kind heart and an innocent soul and was deeply loved by many. Sarah lived an extraordinary, courageous, determined, and full life. She was an example to everyone she met of how to spread love, happiness, and kindness. Despite a life filled with challenges, Sarah always had a smile on her face and made anyone who came across her feel welcomed and at ease. Sarah taught us to open our minds and hearts to that which is different from ourselves – different abilities, different beliefs, different backgrounds – so that difference is no longer unfamiliar, rather something to be embraced and celebrated. Sarah was brave – even when people didn’t realize it, she was constantly fighting for fairness and equality. The world was a better place with Sarah in it and we are all better for knowing Sarah.
In addition, Sarah is survived by her two loving kitties, Niko and Tiger; her sister, Ann Jerome Riley, Ann’s partner, John Anthony Corbin, Sarah’s nephew, Holden Riley Corbin, and a soon-expected nephew of Alexandria, VA; and dozens of cherished cousins, aunts, uncles, and friends.
