WILLIAM COOPER

William Ernest “Bill” Cooper, 89, of Follansbee, WV, died peacefully with his family by his side on Tuesday, April 22, 2025, at Weirton Medical Center.
Bill was born on October 22, 1935, in Follansbee, WV, a son of the late William Henry and Jessie (Chuffey) Cooper. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by seven sisters: Kathryn Isler, Bella Lonetta, Edna King, Dorothy Fisher, Wilma Jean Esposito, Irene Bowman and Martha Borsch.
A 1953 graduate of Follansbee High School, Bill proudly served his country in the United States Army. He was employed at Weirton Steel Corporation, where he worked as Director of Quality Assurance and Technical Services.
A man of deep faith and service, Bill dedicated his life to God, family, and community. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and mentor. Bill was a lifelong member of the Follansbee Church of Christ, where he served as an Elder and spent ten years as a minister. Bill lived with purpose and compassion. He was active in many church and community roles, including serving as a Boy Scout Commissioner, a Trustee of Northeast Ohio Bible College & New York Christian Institute, and Director of Trustees at Elkhorn Valley Church Camp.
Bill is survived by his beloved wife 67 years, Roberta (Vickers) Cooper, at home; his four children: William (Debi) Cooper of Lima, OH, Daniel (Karen) Cooper of Pittsburgh, PA, John (Lori) Cooper of Wellsburg, WV, and Julie (Chris) Byers of Weirton, WV; nine grandchildren: Jessica (Nile) Smith, Drew Cooper, Jacob (Abbey) Cooper, Tyler (Austin) Cooper, and Ben Cooper, Kylie Byers, Jenna Cooper, Chrissy Byers, and Cooper Byers; seven great-grandchildren (with one on the way); and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, April 27, 2025, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM, and again on Monday, April 28, 2025, from 10:00 AM until the time of the funeral service at 11:00 AM with Pastors Jason Cline and Tom Jones officiating at Mullenbach Funeral Home, 669 Main St., Follansbee, WV 26037.
Interment will follow at Highland Hills Memorial Gardens.
Full Military honors will be conducted by the US Army and Ohio Valley Veterans Memorial Squad.
