JAMES DAGUE

James Edward Dague, 55, of Wheeling, formerly of Triadelphia passed away May 5th at Wheeling Hospital and entered into the Arms of God.

James entered this world on July 22, 1969, the cherished firstborn of the late W. Edward and Patricia Louise Naumann Dague.

He graduated from Wheeling Park High School on June 5, 1988; earned an A.A. degree, West Virginia Northern Community College in May of 1993 and B.S. degree from West Liberty State College on Dec. 16, 1995.

He was a former part-time staff member with the Committee on Education, West Virginia House of Delegates since 1994, working for The Honorable Delegate Jerry L. Mezzatesta and The Honorable Delegate Thomas W. Campbell; Special Deputy Sheriff with the Ohio County Sheriff’s Department appointed by Sheriff Thomas F. Burgoyne, July 12, 2004 -present; Legislative Coordinator, American Legion Mountaineer Boys’ State 1987-present; member of the Marine Corp league; President, Wheeling Civitan Club 2001-2002 and Governor, West Virginia District Civitan Club 2002-2004; member, Marshall County Genealogy Web Site; he was also a West Virginia History Hero and portrayed U.S. President Abraham Lincoln, since May 1983.

James was a devout member of Roney’s Point United Presbyterian Church where he had attended all his life and served as Trustee for many years. As a disciple of Christ, James had a gift for friendship and a genuine connection with everyone he encountered; he truly knew no strangers. Even in his school years, James developed a keen interest in the workings of government and the study of political science. His experience at the American Legion’s Boys State was particularly formative, leading him to become a dedicated staff member and a fondly remembered presence, especially for his annual and impressive portrayal of Abraham Lincoln. James proudly supported Veterans and the Military everyday as a member of the Sons of the American Legion and Sons of the American Revolution.

You could always count on James to show this support through his seemingly unlimited military ties, never being one to be caught in casual clothing. His passion for genealogy was similarly profound, leading him to meticulously chart his own ancestry and the family trees of many others, revealing connections that seemed to branch endlessly.

After his passing on May 5th, he leaves behind his loving brother, Gerald A. “Jerry” Dague MD, his sister-in-law, Kelli L. Dague, and their three adult children, Ashley L., Alexander G. (Olivia C.), and Emily E. Dague, who will miss him dearly.
