JOHN RYDER

John Ryder, 78, of Wheeling, died Sunday, May 25, 2025 in Peterson Rehabilitation Center.

He was born February 12, 1947; the son of the late Frank James Ryder Jr. and Martha Lauck Ryder.

John graduated from Wheeling High School in 1965; enlisted in the US Army; work for the City of Wheeling Sanitation Department for 45 years, retiring in 2017; and a member of the Cave Club.

He was always the life of the party and he loved his family more than anything in the world.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Joan Serra, June Kuri, Frank James Ryder III, Robert Ryder and Marlene Ryder.

Survivors include his wife, Pamela Hancher Ryder of Wheeling; children, Stuart (Erinn) Rynkievich of Wheeling, Johnnetta (Shawn) Jones of Jacobsburg, OH, John F. Ryder Jr., James Ryder, Janna (Amanda) Gordon, Kyle Ryder, Kelsey Ryder, and Kody Ryder all of Wheeling; grandchildren, Katlyn Ryder, James Ryder Jr., John F. Ryder III, Bentley Ryder and Hadlee Ryder all of Wheeling; sisters, Jane Givens, Sandra Rider, Martha McCarthy, and Cathy Thomas; several nieces and nephews.

A special thanks to his niece Rhonda May and everyone at Peterson Rehabilitation Center.

John was a long-time fan of the Atlanta Braves. He was proud of his children and grandchildren and never ended a call without saying “I love you.”

Family will receive friends on Thursday from 4pm to 6pm at Grisell Funeral Home and Crematory, 1 Ridgecrest Rd., Bethlehem/Wheeling, where funeral services will be held Friday at 10am.

Interment will follow in Parkview Memorial Gardens with the Moundsville Honor Guard conducting military graveside services.
