Judy Iama Helen Rose Richardson, aka "Booboo", 99, of Wheeling, WV, died Monday, June 9, 2025, in her home surrounded by love.
She was born March 3, 1926 in Wheeling, WV where she was raised by her mother, Margaret Gertrude Charnock Rose and her paternal grandmother, "Mamie" (Laura Virginia Clark Rose).
A 1945 graduate of Wheeling High School, Judy had wonderful memories of Wheeling from throughout her lifetime. From wearing slacks under her skirt in the winter (a big no-no then!) to skipping class with her friend Sally (later her sister-in-law) to walking from 26th Street to Wheeling Park to swim in the summer, Booboo was sharing her stories until the end.
In 1949 Judy married Dolf Richardson, not realizing the affectionate nickname he gave her while dating, Booboo, would become her moniker for life. Together they raised their 3 sons in the house Dolf built her, surrounded by extended family and a close-knit community on Mozart Hill. "Aunt Judy's" house was the place for chipped ham at lunch, Booboo's pool was open all summer to cool down, and the clubhouse was where the best sleepovers happened for generations of Mozart kids. Her love and generosity touched innumerable friends, family, and neighbors.
From church involvement at Christ Lutheran Church in Mozart, to social and volunteer activities, Booboo was always active. When her boys were young she went to local dances and shows, taught Sunday School, and was part of card clubs. For almost 2 decades she delivered weekly meals and conversation for Meals on Wheels as a volunteer. She had a bowling league, local "crafty class" group, and played endless card games with her grandkids for years. In recent years, you could find her at Christ Lutheran Church's over-50 game day, enjoying games and antics.
Booboo loved her family, friends, animals, flowers, NCIS, and ice cream. You could never go wrong with wine if you needed a gift idea, and plants were a close second. She loved animals, especially her "grand-dogs" and kept treats for all the dogs in the neighborhood, just in case they stopped by. Her door was always open to family, friends, and neighbors (and their dogs!) and we all knew it.
In addition to her loving husband, Dolf, who passed away in 2008, Judy was preceded in death by her sister, Peggy; her grandson-in-law, Don; and several in-laws, nieces, nephews, and friends.
She will be deeply missed by all who loved her, including her three sons, Randolph and his wife Cynthia of Charleston, WV; Alan "Turtle" and his wife Pat of Cuyahoga Falls, OH; and Chris and his wife Deb of Glen Easton, WV; her ten (plus two) grandchildren, Briana Richardson of Columbus, OH, Hilary Richardson of Wheeling, WV, Zac Richardson and his wife Lisa of Columbus, OH, Thad Richardson of Charleston, WV, Jason Richardson and his wife Chrystan of Akron, OH, Emily Stout and her husband Tadd of Hanoverton, OH, Monica Richardson of Cuyahoga Falls, OH, Audrey Hill and her husband John of Hudson, OH, Dolf Richardson of Wheeling, WV, Dillon Richardson of Moundsville, WV, Nathan Givens and his wife Janice of Huntington, WV and Lauren Smith and her husband Greg of Pittsburgh, PA; twelve great-grandchildren, Denny Richardson, Sam and Jack Richardson, Ethan, Lucy, and Abbie Stout, Owen, Adam, and Ryan Richardson, and Johnny, Jude, and Sally Hill; special family both chosen and blood: Dennis and Debbie Givens, Barb, April and Paula; and numerous extended family and friends.
Friends will be received on Friday, June 13, 2025 from 10am until the time of service at 12pm, with Pastor Deborah Gable officiating, at Christ Lutheran Church, 2 Richmond Ave (Mozart) Wheeling, WV. Interment to follow at Mt Zion Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Christ Lutheran Church.
