Mark Link was born May 17, 1956, in Wheeling, W.Va., to Harold and Imelda Link. He was the fourth of five children. He died peacefully at home after a brief illness on April 25, 2025, with the support of his family and Kaiser Hospice of Oregon.
Mark was born a Pittsburgh Pirates Baseball fan. He also loved watching the Steelers on Sundays, and always enjoyed a good campfire, which earned him the nickname "pyro".
Mark moved to Los Angeles in 1979, where he worked in telecommunications with General Telephone. He met his wife, Jill on a bike ride along the beach. They recently celebrated 43 years of marriage. They moved their family to Oregon in 1986, where Mark worked at the Oregon Health Science University in telecommunications. He celebrated his retirement in 2015 with a family Wiffle ball tournament, and despite his advanced ankylosing spondylitis disease, he challenged his kids to a base running contest and home run derby.
Mark was proud of his children, who all earned graduate degrees, have professional occupations, and became loving spouses and parents. He was preceded in death by his parents; and infant brother, Harold. He is survived by his children, Rachel Walsh (Chris), Jack Link (Brittany), and Timothy Link (Liz); and his adorable grandchildren, Carmella (three), Lois (three), and Dylan (one). Mark also leaves behind his sisters, Janet Ward (Greg), Sheila Reilly (Mick); and brother, Randy Link (Carla). Mark's siblings were his best friends, as well as Dale Long.
He served as mentor for countless young ball players and had a special bond with many cousins, nieces and nephews. We will all miss him greatly.
