JERRY HIGH

Jerry “Roger” High, of St. Clairsville, Ohio, passed away on July 18, 2025, in Columbus, Ohio. Born on May 2, 1937, in Moundsville, West Virginia, he was the son of the late Curtis C. High and Mary V. (Allen) High (later Mary Ashworth).

Roger graduated from Moundsville High School and proudly served in the U.S. Army with the First Aviation Company of the First Infantry Division. After his service, he earned a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Marketing from West Liberty State College in 1964, where he was a member of the Delta Sigma Pi fraternity.

He spent his professional career as a Sales Representative for Getinge Corporation, a leading medical equipment manufacturer, before retiring. Roger was a Protestant and lived a life rooted in family, service, and learning.

Roger had a deep love of history and ancestry and was a charter member of the Sons of the American Revolution, a member of the Wheeling Genealogy Society, and the Society of the First Infantry Division. He also enjoyed his time as a member of the Wheeling Yacht Club.

He was a lifelong sports enthusiast and an avid athlete, having played football in high school, college, and during his time in the Army. In his younger years, he was also a lifeguard at the Moundsville swimming pool and enjoyed boating, water skiing, and scuba diving in the Caribbean. He loved to travel and cherished his trips to Hawaii, the Caribbean, and to Leeds, England–his ancestral home. He found great joy in the beauty of nature and the memories made while traveling with his wife Minnie.

Above all, the center of Roger’s life was his family. His beloved wife Minnie of 63 years, their five children, nine grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren were his greatest pride and joy.

He is survived by his children: Daniel High and Alan High of Dublin, Ohio; Mary Angela (Chris) Coffield of Zanesfield, Ohio; and Matthew (Tina) High of Wheeling, WV. He is also survived by his daughters-in-law Melissa Smith High and Linda King High; his grandchildren Joshua High (Tiffany), Morgan Leddy (Aaron), Kelsey Wernke (Nate), Eric High, Curtis High, Zachary High, Nathan Coffield, Benjamin Coffield, and Vincent High; and his great-grandchildren Saylor High, Brynlee Leddy, Summer High, Kensie Leddy, and Henry Wernke.
