Together Again
Jo Anna (Joanie) Winland Appenzeller passed Thursday, July 17, 2025. She was born in Martins Ferry, Ohio on March 6, 1930, the daughter of the late Clesson “Jack” and Helen M. (Williams) Winland.
She was a member of the Grace Presbyterian Church in Martins Ferry. Joanie worked for Chapman & Thornburg Boy Press and Elby’s Marketing until her retirement. A member of the Auxiliary of Wheeling Hospital, Woman’s Club of Wheeling; former Eastern Star, Amaranth Fort Henry Court No. 8, Ladies Oriental Shrine of N.A., and Daughters of the Nile.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband, William F. Appenzeller, Sr., sister, Helen J. (Winland) Morrison.
Left to cherish her memory are two nephews; David L. (Vickie) Morrison III, of Hurley N.M., and Donald A Morrison of Colerain; step- son Wm F. “Rick” (Debbie) Appenzeller, Jr., of Martins Ferry, granddaughters; Melissa (Sam) Rice, and Heather (Cortney) Appenzeller; grandsons; Jason (Billie) Rice, great-grandsons; Drake and Trent Rice, and Tristin Appenzeller; great-great grandchildren; Kohen and Kolson Rice, 8 great nieces and nephews.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Wilson Funeral Home, Heslop Chapel, 415 Walnut St., Martins Ferry, Ohio 43935. In keeping with Joanie’s wishes there will be no public visitation, a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date at the Grace Presbyterian Church.
