ELLEN QUIGLEY

Ellen Marie (Gilmore) “Sis” Quigley, age 94, passed away peacefully on September 3, 2025, at the home of her daughter. She was born on August 20, 1931, in Moundsville, WV, to Marion L. and Pearl (Welling) Gilmore.

Ellen married Donald Rex Quigley on March 21, 1948. They were married for 71 years before his passing in 2019.

Ellen loved to sew–especially making dresses for her daughters. Her hands were rarely still. She also loved to cook. Some of her family’s favorite dishes were her apple dumplings, cinnamon rolls, and homemade chocolate cake with caramel icing. Her meatloaf, macaroni salad, and noodles were also staples at the family table.Our mom was a strong and determined woman. She was always busy and could run circles around her kids. When you took her shopping, you’d better be ready–she was hard to keep up with! Ellen was a past Worthy Matron of Lorraine Chapter #9 in Cameron, WV. She was also a proud member of the Big Run Community Center and an active member of the Big Run Christian Church. She served faithfully as a Deaconess and Sunday School teacher and rarely missed a Sunday. Ellen was a dedicated mother first and foremost. She loved being a grandma to her 12 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchil- dren.

She is survived by her children: Donna Lou (Terry) Logston and Debbie (Dave) Elson, both of Cameron, WV Lawrence Wesley (Michelle) Quigley of Morgantown, WV

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Sue (Fred) McCurdy. She was also preceded in death by her siblings and their spouses: Robert “Bob” and Jessie Gilmore, Marion “Junior” and Ollie Gilmore, William “Bill” Gilmore Everett “Bud” Gilmore Betty and Tom Wetterau, and by her father- and mother-in-law, Lawrence and Mable (Yeater) Quigley. Grandchildren: Tim McCurdy, Drew (Betty) McCurdy, Amanda (Chris) Lindsay, Jessica Pierrelus (Julio Castro), Teresa (Jared) Yeater, Lacy (Robert) Howard, Noah (Neely) Logsdon, Mathew (Megan) Elson, Sara (Zach) Reese, Cole Quigley, Marisa Quigley, and Luke Quigley. Great-grandchildren: Ty, Adam, Georgia, Pam, Derek, Caitlin, Connor, Anna, Ethan, Ava, Maya, Patton, Everly, Finn, Layla, Thacher, Ellen, Stetson, Dayle, Joslyn, and Eden.

She also leaves behind many beloved nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held on September 5th, 2025, from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Big Run Christian Church. Additional visitation will be held on September 6th, 2025, from 11:00 a.m. until the start of the funeral service at 1:00 p.m., with Rev. Thaddeus Allen and Alicia Hardaway officiating.

Burial will follow at the Big Run Christian Church Cemetery.
