DR. RICAREDO P. SUYAO

Dr. Ricaredo P. Suyao (Dr. Ric) passed away peacefully in Clearwater, FL on Wednesday, October 15, 2025, surrounded by family.

He was born in Iloilo, Philippines on October 30, 1937 to Calixto and Felipa Suyao.

He received his undergraduate degree at the University of the Philippines in Iloilo and his Doctorate in Medicine at the University of the East in Manila in 1963. He practiced medicine in Iloilo following graduation and went to the United States in 1964 to further his medical and surgical training in Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, and Michigan, where he met and married Rosario, his wife of 58 years. He also worked at Jersey City Medical Center in New Jersey as an ER doctor prior to settling and practicing Medicine and Surgery in New Martinsville, WV, where he, together with his wife, cared for their home-town community for more than 27 years. Dr. Ric was a life-long Catholic and a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in New Martinsville, WV. He was also a member of the local Rotary Club in New Martinsville, a member and officer of the former Wetzel County Hospital Medical Society, the WV State Medical Association, the American Medical Association, and the Belmont County Medical Society.

Beyond his career, Dr. Ric lived a life full of warmth and generosity. He had a gift for making everyone feel comfortable, whether he was swapping stories over breakfast/dinner or meeting new friends on his travels. Known for his kind heart, he could brighten a room simply by walking in.

Dr. Ric loved adventure — whether cruising the open road in his motor home or boating and fishing on the Ohio River with his family, or escaping the WV winters for some sunshine in FL. Watching sports (especially WVU and the Pittsburgh Steelers), family getaways, and feasting on good seafood were among his greatest joys. But what mattered most to him was time with his family and grandchildren, who brought endless pride and joy to his life.

Those who knew Dr. Ric will remember his kind heart, humor, good company and adventurous spirit, and the countless ways he made life a little lighter for everyone around him. His family takes comfort in knowing that his laughter and love will echo in their hearts forever.

Dr. Ric is survived by his beloved wife, Rosario, and their two children, Rick Jr (Allison) and JoAnn (Debbie), and two grandchildren, Lily and Kai.
