ETHEL MOONEY
Ethel Susan (Bonene) Mooney, 82 was born on February 2, 1942, in Wheeling, West Virginia, at Ohio Valley Hospital the daughter of the late, Arthur E. and Ruth “Bunny” (Wrasinsky) Bonene. She passed away peacefully on Friday, October 24, 2025, at her home in Wheeling, where she spent most of her life. She was the wife of George E. Mooney and mother of Roanan (Heidi) Mooney, grandmother to Ryan, Julia, Beau and sister to brothers, Arthur R. and Joseph Bonene.
Susan, known to friends as Susie, was a graduate of Bishop Donahue High School, where she finished second in her class and was awarded a scholarship to Siena College in Memphis, Tennessee. She relished time spent with friends and family, enjoying dancing, socializing, and many happy moments together. Her talent on the dance floor was recognized early when she was voted Best Dancer at Bishop Donahue, and was invited to join in, “The Pepsi Dance Party with Don Caldwell” on WTRF.
In her younger years, Susan worked at the Wonder Bread Bakery and participated in volunteer work at St. Vincent De Paul Catholic Church. She enjoyed ice skating and daily walks with her husband George, which became cherished routines over the years.
Known for her compassionate heart and gentle spirit, Susan had a special way with friends, family, and children. She was famous for her Texas Sheet Cake and was admired for her positive attitude, even in challenging times. She will be sadly missed by her family, her three grandchildren, 16 nieces and nephews, and all who were fortunate to know her.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Bonnie Riesbeck.
Family will receive friends on Sunday, November 2, 2025, from 12 noon till time of service at 2:30 pm with Fr. Thomas Chillog officiating at Wilson Funeral Home, 920 National Rd., Brookside, OH 43912.
