HARRY HANS JR.

Harry Henry Hans Jr., 88, of Wheeling, WV, passed away peacefully Thursday, December 4, 2025, at Wheeling Specialty Hospital.

He was born in Wheeling on September 23, 1937, the son of the late Harry and Josephine (Finn) Hans Sr. Harry was a devout Catholic and would attend St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church. He proudly served his country as a member of the U.S. Navy, where for over 20 years he served as the head of the boiler room of various ships, including the USS Gainard and the USS Wasp CV-18, both destroyers. A part of his military career was his participation in the Cuban Missile Crisis, where he was stationed in Cuba on a destroyer.

Upon completing his service, he continued to lead a life filled with simple joys and quiet passions. Harry found great happiness in mini-golfing with his wife, an activity they both relished and shared together for many years. When he had a few moments he would often be found playing crossword puzzles.

In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his loving wife of nearly 40 years, Constance “Connie” Hans (2025).

Harry is survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Ralph and Pasquino, Jr.; three step-daughters, Denise (Rick) Schaefer, Michelle (Jimmy) Herrera and Lavina (Craig) McConnell and five grandchildren.

Family and friends will be received Wednesday, December 10, 2025, at Altmeyer Funeral Homes, 154 Kruger St., from 11 a.m. until time of service at 1 p.m. Interment and Military honors will be held at Halcyon Hills Memorial Gardens.
