JEROME “JERRY” ALOYSIUS BURKE SR.

Jerome “Jerry” Aloysius Burke Sr., a lifelong resident of Wheeling, West Virginia, passed away peacefully on December 7, 2025, at the age of 88. Born on November 25, 1937, in Wheeling, Jerry was a cherished member of his community and a devoted family man.

Jerry spent his career as a dedicated salesman at Wheeling Wholesale, where he was known for his integrity and commitment to his work. Outside of his professional life, he was deeply passionate about politics and was an ardent supporter of all sports.

A man of faith, Jerry was a devoted member of Saint Vincent de Paul Catholic Church. He was also actively involved in several community organizations, including the Knights of Columbus, the Wheeling Central Catholic High School Booster Club, and the Elm Grove Civics Club. His presence and contributions to these groups will be sorely missed.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, Richard Vincent Burke and Elizabeth Greene Burke, as well as his brothers Walter, Thomas, Buck, Jack, and Robert Burke, and his sister Mary Ann Powell.

He is survived by his loving children, son Rusty (Amy) Burke of Centreville, VA, and daughter Kerri (Kareem) Hadeed of Sterling, VA. He was a proud grandfather to Macie Hadeed, Ruthie Burke, Ryan Hadeed, and Patrick Burke. Jerry is also survived by his sisters Dorothy Winiesdorffer and Elanor O’Toole, along with several nieces and nephews who will remember him fondly.

Family and friends are invited to pay their respects during the visitation on Friday, December 19th, from 6-8 p.m. at Altmeyer Funeral Home Elm Grove Chapel. A funeral mass will be held in his honor at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church on Saturday, December 20th, at 10 a.m., followed by a graveside service at Mount Calvary Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Wheeling Central Catholic High School, reflecting Jerry’s commitment to education and his unwavering support of Wheeling Central Catholic High School.

Jerry’s legacy of kindness, dedication, and community spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. May he rest in eternal peace.
