GEORGE DORMAS

George Dormas, 77, of St. Clairsville, OH, passed away on Saturday, January 17, 2026 at Liza’s Place, Wheeling, WV.

He was born on October 17, 1948, in Wheeling, WV, son of the late Pete and Mary Steffas Dormas.

In addition to his parents, George was preceded in death by his mother and father in-law, George and Athena Stakias.

George was a graduate of Warwood High School, class of 1966, where he was a 2-sport athlete playing both track and basketball. He was a member of the state runner-up Warwood High School team in 1966. He received his bachelor’s degree in education from West Liberty State College. After receiving his degree, George taught at Clay Junior High School in Wheeling for 5 years.

George then went on to become the owner of the Bridge Tavern in Wheeling, WV for 33 years. After his retirement, George received a key to the City of Wheeling. He was a member of St. John the Divine Greek Orthodox Church, Ahepa, the Pancretan Association of America, and West Liberty Hilltoppers Club. He was an avid Cleveland sports fan.

He is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Linda Stakias Dormas; two sons, Dr. Peter (Stacy) Dormas of St. Clairsville, OH and Paul (Annmarie) Dormas of Cleveland, OH; sister, Valerie D. Lakios; brother-in-law, Paul (Michelle) Stakias; five grandchildren, George, Nicholas, Alex, Evie, and Mary Dormas; niece, Deanna (Jason) Gallagher; two nephews, Billy (Valerie) Lakios and George Stakias; and many great- nieces/nephews, and cousins.

Friends will be received on Thursday, January 22, 2026 from 2-7 PM with a Trisagion service at 5 PM at Kepner Funeral Homes, 900 National Road, Wheeling, WV (304-232-2732). Services will be held on Friday, January 23, 2026 at 10 AM at St. John the Divine Greek Orthodox Church, 2215 Chapline Street, Wheeling, WV with Father Demetrios Tsikouris officiating. Interment will follow in Greenwood Cemetery, Wheeling, WV.
