KAREN J. SIMONS

Karen Joann Simons, born on October 5, 1944, in Grafton, WV, passed away peacefully on February 9, 2026, at the age of 81 at Good Shepherd Nursing Home in Wheeling, WV. Her life was a testament to compassion, dedication, and simple joys.

Karen spent many years as a devoted Nurses Aid at Reynolds Memorial Hospital. Her gentle nature and unwavering compassion touched the lives of countless patients and colleagues, leaving a lasting legacy of care and kindness.

A devout Catholic, Karen was a faithful parishioner of Our Lady of Peace, where she found strength and solace in her faith. Her love for reading was unparalleled; she always had a book in her hands. Known for her wonderful sense of humor and kind spirit, Karen brightened the lives of those around her with her warmth and laughter.

Karen was preceded in death by her parents, Samuel and Dolly (Saurborn) Floyd; her first husband, Paul Wnek; her second husband, Michael Simons Sr.; her son, Todd Smith; and her siblings, Charles, Marshall, Joe, Earl “Dever,” Agnes, Ellen, and Tootsie.

She is survived by her son, Shawn (Eva) Wnek; her sister, Brenda Dottie Leighty; her cherished grandchildren, Paige Wnek, Mason Lemmon, and Audrey Lemmon; and her dearest family friends, Chad (Michelle) Lemmon and Cathy Lemmon. Their love and support were a constant source of happiness and strength for her.

Services to honor Karen’s life will be held on Friday, February 13, 2026, with visitation from 10-11 AM at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 AM, celebrated by Rev. Tijo George. Karen will be laid to rest at Riverview Cemetery in Moundsville.
