MARY MARGARET “PEGGY” SHAUGHNESSY

Mary Margaret “Peggy” Shaughnessy, born November 18, 1932, in Wheeling, West Virginia, passed away peacefully on January 31, 2026, at the age of 93 at WVU Medicine – Wheeling Hospital.

A dedicated and loving homemaker, Peggy was deeply rooted in her faith and a cherished member of St. Michael Catholic Church in Wheeling. Her devotion extended beyond the pews as she graced the church choir with her voice and played an integral role in St. Michael’s Christian Mothers group.

Peggy is preceded in death by her parents, Herman Sebastian and Margaret Eleanor (Howley) Muhlman; her brothers, Herman and Robert Lee Muhlman; and her sister, Sarah Louise Kissel. Her enduring love and spirit are survived by her husband, Phillip Addison Shaughnessy; her children, Colleen Kay (Charles) Polley, Kathleen Ann (Jeffrey) Allen, and Michael Shaughnessy; and her treasured granddaughter, Gabrielle (Joshua DelVillar) Allen.

Services to honor Peggy’s life will begin on Wednesday, February 18, 2026, with visitation from 1-3 PM and again from 5 PM until the Rosary at 7 PM, followed by a Vigil Service at Altmeyer Funeral Home, 1400 Eoff St. The following day, a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Michael Catholic Church on Thursday, February 19, at 12 PM, with interment thereafter at Greenwood Cemetery in Wheeling.
