CHARLES “CHUCK” MICHAELS

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Charles “Chuck” Albert Michaels, a loving husband, cherished father, and devoted friend, who left this world on February 27, 2026, at the age of 88.

Born on March 21, 1937, in Wheeling, WV, Chuck’s journey through life was marked by love, dedication, and an unwavering spirit that touched everyone he met.

Chuck was a natural at building connections, a talent that served him well throughout his self-employed career in the sales industry. His entrepreneurial spirit shone brightly as he founded and led Family Initiative Inc. in Wheeling, WV. His outgoing nature and genuine interest in others made him not just a successful businessman, but a cherished member of the community.

Faith played a central role in Chuck’s life. He was a devout Catholic and a proud member of the Cathedral of St. Joseph. His dedication extended to the Knights of Columbus Council 504, where he was a valued member. Additionally, Chuck honorably served his country as a member of the U.S. Army Reserve.

Beyond his professional and spiritual pursuits, Chuck was a man of diverse interests. His love for his family was paramount, and he adored his dogs with an unyielding passion. He also found joy in gardening and even tried his hand at beekeeping. Yet, his greatest commitment was to his beloved wife, Diana, whom he cared for with unwavering devotion.

Preceded in death by his parents, Albert Henry Michaels and Minetta Lucille (Minch) Michaels; brothers, Robert P., John F., and Albert “Mike” Michaels; infant twin granddaughters, Roberta and Sophie Michaels; and his loyal dog, Farmer.

He is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, Diana (Burke) Michaels, and his children: Mark A. Michaels, Cheryl Campbell, Scott (Elizabeth) Michaels, Eric (Kathy) Michaels, David (Mary) Vass, Steve (Arleta) Vass, and Greg (Geovanni Anseles) Vass. His memory will also be cherished by his grandchildren: Kate (Dillon) Esteph, Benjamin (Donesha) Michaels, Mackenzie Michaels, Alaina (Sean McBride) Michaels, Connor (Claire) Michaels, Alex Vass, Carter Michaels, and Michaela Vass; his great-granddaughter, Lilly Grace Esteph; and his beloved Irish Setter, Koby.

A memorial gathering to celebrate Chuck’s life will be held on Saturday, March 7, 2026, from 11:30 a.m. until the memorial service at 12:30 p.m., officiated by Rev. John D. Soplinski at Altmeyer Funeral Home, 1400 Eoff St., Wheeling.
