MARY MONTELEONE
Mary Regina “Mary Jean” (Straughn) Monteleone, 96, passed away on March 24, 2026, in Wheeling. Mary Jean was born on August 1, 1929, the daughter of the late William and Catherine (Brennan) Straughn.
In addition to her parents, Mary Jean was preceded in death by her husband Leonard F. Monteleone and her brother Pat Straughn.
She leaves behind her son Leonard W. Monteleone; daughter Lisa (Steve) Barone; grandchildren Kirk Monteleone, Shasta (Dustin) Schroeder, and Kayla, Kamryn, and Ryan Barone; great-grandchildren Vito Monteleone and Italy, Anthony, and Elin Schroeder; sister Nancy Doyle; brother Jerry Straughn; and several nieces and nephews.
Mary Jean worked as a telephone operator and then became a homemaker who loved caring for her family. She will be remembered for her fondness for Bingo, bridge mix candy, vacations at Ocean City, and the color green.
Family and friends will be received on Wednesday, April 1, from 9:00 am until 11:00 am at Altmeyer Funeral Homes Elm Grove Chapel, 154 Kruger St. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, 2244 Marshall Ave., at 11:30 am. Procession to Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Mary Jean’s final resting place, will directly follow.
