NORMA SCHOENE
Norma J. (Alexander) Schoene, a beloved mother, sister, grandmother, and dedicated community member, passed away peacefully on March 1, 2026, in Glen Dale, WV, at the age of 85. Born on February 28, 1941, in Wellsburg, WV, she lived a life marked by service, compassion, and leadership.
Norma was a proud graduate of the B.M. Spurr School of Practical Nursing and WV Northern Community College. She devoted her professional life to caring for others as a Registered Nurse at Reynolds Memorial Hospital in Glen Dale. Her dedication and skill were recognized during her tenure as Head Nurse in the OB-GYN department, a position she held for three years before retiring after 35 years of exemplary service.
A woman of deep faith, Norma was a cherished member of St. Jude Catholic Church, where she served as a Eucharistic Minister and contributed to the Parish Pastoral Council. Her commitment to community service extended beyond her church. She was a founding member and past president of the John Marshall Football Moms, and current member of the Woman’s Club of Wheeling. Her leadership was further exemplified through her role as Past President of the General Federation of Women’s Clubs, WV Northern District.
Norma was also an active member of the WV State Ladies Fraternal Order of Eagles, where she served as State President, and the WV Fraternal Order of Eagles Auxiliary, where she held positions as State Madam President, State Madam Chaplain, and State Mother. Her involvement with the Eagles Club in Moundsville and the Fraternal Order of Eagles in Elm Grove was a testament to her commitment to fellowship and service. Additionally, she was a member and former President of the Tuesday Arts Club of Moundsville.
She was preceded in death by her parents, August and Leona (Miller) Alexander; her husband, Richard J. Schoene; her sister, Anna Mae Palmer; her brother, Ronnie L. Alexander; and her great-grandson, Joseph Aikins.
Norma is survived by her loving children: Larry L. (Monika) Schoene of North Carolina, Richard J. (Robin) Schoene II of Glen Dale, WV, Michael W. Schoene of Cameron, WV, and Dr. Elizabeth S. (Walter) Roberson of Florida. She is also survived by her brothers, August R. (Patty) Alexander and Donnie A. (Fran) Alexander, both of Wellsburg, WV; her sisters, Charlene LeMasters and Dorothy Craft, both of Wellsburg, WV, Wanda Bennett of Martins Ferry, OH, Nancy Postle of Jeanette, PA, Linda (Sam) Greathouse of Beech Bottom, WV, and Beverly (Bob) Lowe of Follansbee, WV; and her sister-in-law, Norma Jean Henderson of Benwood, WV. She leaves behind three grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews who will cherish her memory.
Norma’s legacy of love, service, and dedication to her family and community will be remembered and celebrated by all who knew her.
Friends will be received from 2-7 pm, Friday, March 6, 2026, at Altmeyer Funeral Home, Lutes & Kirby-Vance Chapel, 118 Grant Avenue, Moundsville, WV. An Eagles Auxiliary service will be held at 3:30 pm. A vigil service will be held at 6:30 pm.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 am, Saturday, March 7, 2026, at St. Jude Catholic Church, 710 Jefferson Avenue, Glen Dale, WV, with Rev. Doney Chacko as celebrant. Interment will follow in Greenwood Cemetery, Wheeling, WV.
