VIRGINIA HESS
Virginia “Ginger” Ann (Patrick) Hess, 86, passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 5, 2026, at her home in Moundsville, WV.
She graduated from Moundsville High School and worked in both retail at GC Murphy and then as a secretary for the old Moundsville General Hospital. Most of her life, though, she dedicated herself to raising her children and taking care of her husband, Don, for almost 65 years.
In her younger years, she was an avid bowler, bowling in leagues and traveling to participate in bowling trips. She was a “master with words” and rarely lost a game of Scrabble. She had a love of sports and never missed a game being played by her kids or grandkids. She would watch the Steeler draft each year and always watched the New York Yankees. As a young woman, she met Mickey Mantle and collected baseball cards.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Marie (Schrack) Patrick; her son, Donald Hess; her sister, Brenda Wade; and her brother, Gerald Patrick.
Ginger is survived by her loving husband, Donald E. Hess, of Moundsville, WV; her daughter, Beth Loy of Moundsville, WV; and her grandchildren, Mandy Loy of Moundsville, WV and Dereck Hess of Hillsborough, NJ. She is also survived by her sisters, Mary Jo Sloan of Merritt Island, FL and Karen (Kenneth) Peterson of Conway, SC; her brother, Daniel (Carla) Patrick of Georgia; her sister-in-law, Ivette Patrick, of Moundsville, WV. She also leaves behind two great-grandchildren, Avery and Owen, also from Moundsville, WV and many nieces and nephews.
Per her request, there will be no service, but there will be a lengthy tribute to her life posted on her Facebook page, where friends and relatives will be encouraged to share their most memorable stories of Ginger.
