Albert Kreitzer, Jr.

Albert “Al” Joseph Kreitzer, Jr., 83, passed away on April 4, 2026, in his hometown of Wheeling. Al was born on July 7, 1942, the son of Albert Joseph Kreitzer, Sr., and Margaret (Trischler) Kreitzer.

In addition to his parents, Al was preceded in death by his brother Jimmy Kreitzer and his sister Carol Kreitzer.

He leaves behind his wife of 55 years Kathryn “Katie” (McDougall) Kreitzer; sons John (Maura) and Paul (Natalie); grandchildren Adalyn, Amelia, Jackson, and Tyler; brothers Larry (Mary Ann), Rick (Kim), Dale (Dee), and Ray (Bridget); sisters Peggy Knellinger, Kathy (Bruce) McColloch, Emma (Bill) Fisher, and Libby (Brian) Burris; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Al proudly served his country as Lieutenant on the aircraft carrier USS Intrepid in the US Navy during the Vietnam War and worked as Director of Corporate Credit at Wheeling Pittsburgh Steel. He was a longtime member of the Valley Grove Lions Club and volunteered at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church. His heart was generous, always ready to lend a hand to family and friends.

Family and friends will be received on Wednesday, April 8, from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm with a Vigil Service at 7:30 pm at Altmeyer Funeral Homes Elm Grove Chapel, 154 Kruger St. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, April 9, at 11:00 am at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church. Full Military Honors will be rendered at church after Mass. Procession to Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Al’s final resting place, will directly follow.
