DEBBIE JO RICHMOND

Debbie Jo Richmond

The beloved Debra “Debbie” Jo Richmond, age 61 of Glen Dale, was welcomed home by Christ on April 7th after a three year battle with stage 4 triple negative metastatic breast cancer. She was at home surrounded by her closest loved ones until the very end.

She was born November 28, 1964, the daughter of the late Michael Joseph Smith & Bonita “Bonnie” Rae Smith (Nickerson).

Debbie graduated from Bishop Donahue in 1983. She married the love of her life, Lou Richmond, on September 6, 1986. With nearly 40 years together, Lou remained her steadfast supporter through her cancer journey.

Debbie was an incredible mother to her three beloved children: David (Megan) Richmond, Bobby Richmond, and Jennifer (Jacob) Beyser. She showered them with love and supported them through all phases of life. She was more than a mom; Debbie was a best friend who cherished her children with every ounce of her being.

She adored her three grandchildren: Alice, Damon, and Paxton. They were her greatest joy and always brought a smile to her face.

She was a proud member of St. Jude Church and lifetime Catholic. She served as a Universal Banker at Community Bank in Moundsville for many years.

Debbie was known for her incredible Christmas Tree display in Glen Dale that lit up the streets year after year. She was a talented scrapbooker and always tuned into her favorite soap opera “Days of Our Lives”. Most of all, she loved spending time with her children and grandchildren. Debbie was known for her enormous heart and infectious laugh. She never hesitated to help a friend or family member in need. Debbie would show up for anyone in a moments notice and was an incredible fighter in her battle against cancer. Her unwavering positivity in the face of adversity was remarkable. She will be deeply missed by all who were lucky enough to know her.

She leaves behind the large and loving Smith family, including siblings Thomas (Mary) Smith, Tammy (Ralph) Brandon, Kathy (CR) Coleman, and Michelle Smith. Her several cousins, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews brought so much joy to her life.

Andrea Varner, her best friend throughout her life, provided care until the end with her limitless love and expertise.
