SAMUEL ZAVATSKY SR.
Samuel Michael Zavatsky, Sr., 90, formerly of Dillonvale, Ohio, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 28, 2026 at his home in Florida.
He was born November 18, 1935 in Barton, Ohio a son of the late Samuel and Julia (Homza) Zavatsky.
A proud veteran of the United States Army, he served his country with honor and integrity, embodying the true spirit of service and commitment.
Samuel was a graduate of Columbus West High School, where he laid the foundation for a lifetime of hard work and perseverance. His professional career was marked by a long and successful tenure at Wheeling Pitt Steel, where he retired as a foreman. Through his diligent work and leadership, he gained the respect and admiration of his colleagues.
After retirement, Sam worked part-time as a groundskeeper at the Linsly School for 20 years. He took great pride in preparing the athletic fields for contests, and ensuring every line was straight.
A man of faith, Samuel was a devoted member of the Harbor of Hope in St. Clairsville, Ohio. His presence within the community was a testament to his deep spirituality and commitment to living a life guided by compassion and understanding.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret (Fodor) Zavatsky, sister, Joan Snyder, and brother, Paul Zavatsky.
He is survived by his children, Samuel (Jamie) Zavatsky Jr., Mark (Judy) Zavatsky, grandchildren, William Michael (Stacey) Zavatsky, Michelle (Charles) Applegarth, Lauren Zavatsky, Maxwell Zavatsky, Michael Zavatsky, great-granddaughters, Katie Applegarth, Madison Applegarth, sister-in-law, Mary Lou Fodor, brother, Joe (Karen) Zavatsky, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Family and friends will be received at The Harbor of Hope in St. Clairsville, Ohio on Saturday, April 4, 2026 from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service at 12:30 p.m., with Pastor Dean Myers officiating.
