SCOT ALAN DUVALL

Scot Alan Duvall

Scot Alan Duvall, 60, died March 5, 2026, in Jacksonville, Fla. He was born July 17, 1965, in Wheeling, W.Va., the son of Sandra K. Duvall and the late Alan N. Duvall.

He graduated from The Linsly School in 1983, where he was valedictorian, head prefect and drum major. He earned a bachelor’s degree from Lafayette College in 1987 and a juris doctor from Washington and Lee University School of Law in 1990.

He practiced trademark and intellectual property law in Louisville, Ky., for more than 30 years. He was a principal drafter of the 2006 Trademark Dilution Revision Act, which established a national standard for protecting famous trademarks. He served on committees in the International Trademark Association.

He approached his work with genuine enthusiasm and strategic mindset, and was recognized in the 2025 edition of WTR 1000: The World’s Leading Trademark Professionals as “a standout practitioner” in trademark prosecution and litigation.

His greatest joy was being a father. He was an avid player of board games and a devoted season ticket holder of Louisville City FC, his favorite professional soccer team.

He is survived by his wife, Juli, and their three children, Ava, Kora and Philip; his sister, Diana Duvall- Darr (Billy Darr); his stepmother, Brenda Duvall; and his stepsister, Brandy Burke (Patrick).
