William Lewis

William Owen “Bill” Lewis, III, 74, passed away peacefully on April 22, 2026 at Liza’s Place.

He was born on April 23, 1951, in Wheeling, WV, a son of the late William and Patricia (Willey) Lewis. Bill graduated from Linsly Military Institute in 1969 with the rank of Cadet Captain. He became a member of the Aviator Society in 2019, an honor given to those celebrating their 50th year as alumni. His professional career saw him excel as a Regional Sales Manager for Columbia Paint Corporation.

A man of great faith and community spirit, Bill was a devout member of St. Michael Catholic Church, where he served as Head Usher and would often cantor. He was a proud member of the Knights of Columbus where he formed lasting friendships and enjoyed his weekly golf outings and Euchre games. Bill was also a member of the St. Michael Parish School Board and served as the past President of the Boosters.

An avid sports enthusiast, Bill had a passion for coaching and was fondly known as “Coach Lewis”. He coached his children in a variety of sports through school, dedicating countless hours to mentoring young athletes. He was a baseball and softball coach through the Dimmeydale Organization and coached the legendary “Pike Rockets”. His love for sports did not end after coaching, he found great joy in cheering his grandchildren on and was known to be the most enthusiastic fan.

Bill had a special love for football, in his younger years he played as #61 and was a 150 pound right guard for Linsly. He was a passionate Notre Dame and Pittsburgh Steelers fan.

In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by a sister, Pam Cunningham.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 53 years, Deborah (Kahle) Lewis; three children, Rebecca Ryan, William (Candice) Lewis, IV and Christine Lewis; nine grandchildren, Caitlin, Madison, Marissa, Teagan, Reagan, Neal, Kearsten, Sean and Adam; his brother Jon (Beth) Lewis and sister Penny Kemp, along with several beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, and in-laws.

Family and friends will be received Sunday, April 26, 2026 from 2-4 and 6-8 pm at Altmeyer Funeral Homes, Elm Grove Chapel, 154 Kruger St., Wheeling. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday, April 27, at 11 am at St. Michael Catholic Church. Entombment will be held at Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
