GREGORY MICHAEL

Gregory L. Michael of Paden City, WV passed away peacefully on May 22, 2026 at Genesis Sistersville Center, in Sistersville, WV. He was born on January 7, 1939. Son of the late Strausie and Lina (Milburn) Michael of Paden City, WV. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 68 years, Shirley Michael and sister, Ruthann (Dave) Martin. Surviving are his children, Marcia (Dana) Davis of Bentonville, AR; Greg (Randi) Michael of Parkersburg, WV; Becky (Shawn) Williamson of Canal Winchester, OH. Grandchildren, Justin Davis of Bentonville, AR; Blake Davis of Chicago, IL; Ben Davis of Bentonville, AR; Sean (Madison) Michael of Mineral Wells, WV; Amanda (Chris) Ware of Parkersburg, WV; Evan (Shayla) Michael of Vienna, WV; Seth (Emily) Williamson of Jackson, OH and Hayley (Taylor) Vincent of Lancaster, OH; Great-grandchildren, Eliana, Elias and Emry Kay Michael; Isaiah Ware; Liam and Levi Michael; Harper and Hutch Williamson; and William and Daisy Vincent. The grandchildren and great-children adored his fun-loving and ornery ways, and all lovingly called him “Pap”. He will forever hold a special place in their hearts.

Greg loved his wife, Shirley, with everything that was within him and helped take care of her until the very end of her life. He most assuredly kept his vows, “to have and to hold from this day forward, for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish, till death do us part.” His steadfastness as a husband was a wonderful Christian example to his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and all others who knew him. He showed those around him what it meant to truly love someone and weather the storms of life together.

Gregory was a faithful Christian and a member of the Pleasant Valley church of Christ. He was a graduate of Paden City High School and Wheeling Barber College. Greg was a retired agent for the B&O and CSX Railroad, and always had an affinity for steam engines. In past years, he also ran his own local barbershop across the street from his home in Paden City. Gregory was a fishing and gun enthusiast, and a member of the NRA, Tyler Rod and Gun Club and Muzzleloader Club. He also enjoyed traveling with and supporting Shirley in many of her local civic activities. Another one of their favorite pastimes as a couple was camping. They enjoyed staying at several of the campsites, cabins and lodges throughout the beautiful states of West Virginia and Ohio.

Greg was always proud of his “Orange” Irish heritage, and this was one of his favorite Irish blessings he would often quote: “May the road rise to meet you, May the wind be always at your back. May the sun shine warm upon your face, The rains fall soft upon your fields. And until we meet again, May God hold you in the hollow of His hand.”\
