Joyce Ann Henning

Joyce Ann Henning, a beloved mother, sister, grandmother, and friend, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on May 16, 2026, in Wheeling, West Virginia, at the age of 77. Born on October 12, 1948, in Martins Ferry, Ohio, Joyce lived a life filled with love, dedication, and compassion.

Joyce was a graduate of St. Clairsville High School, class of 1966. Following her passion for helping others, she pursued a career in nursing and graduated from the OVGH School of Nursing in 1969. She dedicated over forty years of her professional life as a Registered Nurse in the Operating Room at Ohio Valley Medical Center, where her kindness and skill touched the lives of countless patients and colleagues.

Outside of her professional life, Joyce found joy in the simple pleasures of life. She enjoyed long walks with friends and loved ones. She was an avid herb gardener, spending hours in her garden and creating beautiful herb wreaths that were admired by all who knew her. As her late husband always said “She knew all things green.” Her love for baking filled her home with warmth and delicious aromas, creating cherished memories for her family and friends. She was especially known for her delicious pies which she loved making for the special occasions in the lives of those around her. Joyce had a deep appreciation for classical music, which provided a soothing soundtrack to her life.

Family was the cornerstone of Joyce’s life. She treasured spending time with her sisters and grandchildren, creating lasting bonds and cherished memories. Her granddaughters will always remember tea with Mimi.

Joyce was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Richard Henning, and her parents, Fred and Anne Holub. She is survived by her loving children: son Richard (Rhonda) Henning of Hurricane, WV; son Daniel Henning of Wheeling, WV; and daughter Emily Dominici of Wheeling, WV. She also leaves behind her dear siblings: sister Kathy (Bill) Gibeaut of Morristown, OH; sister Mary Ellen (Keith) Davis of Sun City Center, FL; sister Susan (Paul) Calovini of Winston Salem, NC; brother Fred Michael (Tina) Holub of St. Clairsville, OH; and brother Richard (Sandra) Holub of Huntersville, NC.

Joyce’s legacy continues through her cherished grandchildren: Kelsey (Kyle) Markle, Angela Henning, Joshua Henning, Maddie Cooper, and Haley Cooper, as well as her great-grandson, Sutton Spencer. She will be fondly remembered by numerous nieces, nephews, and friends who were blessed to have known her.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 21st, from 3-6 PM at Altmeyer Funeral Home, Elm Grove Chapel. A funeral service will follow at 6 PM at the same location, where family and friends will gather to celebrate Joyce’s life and bid farewell to a remarkable woman who touched so many hearts.

Joyce Ann Henning will be deeply missed but forever remembered with love and gratitude. The family of Joyce would like to offer a special thank you to the loving care given by Amedisys Hospice and Good Shepherd Nursing Home. Your dedicated care helped keep her beautiful smile until the end.
