SR. CARMELLA CAMPIONE, CSJ

Sr. Carmella Campione, CSJ (90), died peacefully in the presence of her sisters in community on May 7 at Mount St. Joseph in Wheeling. Sr.

Carmella was preceded in death by her parents, Eva Josephine and John Battista Campione, as well as one sister, Theresa Eva Campione Post. She is survived by her nephews and nieces, Christopher and Jackie Post, Kevin and Robin Post, and Kathy Jackson.

Born in Fairmont, WV in 1935, Sr. Carmella entered the Sisters of St. Joseph on September 8, 1955. After completing her initial religious formation, Sr. Carmella dedicated the next 37 years of her life to Catholic education as a teacher and administrator in the Diocese of Wheeling-Charleston.

For 71 years, Sr. Carmella lived the mission of unity of the Congregation of St. Joseph: committed whole heartedly to Jesus’ prayer that all may be one as God is One. She was devoted to her sisters in religion, her family, those she served and her friends. Sr. Carmella brought joy and great love to the various ministries she was asked to undertake by the congregation. Sr. Carmella was actively involved with numerous non-profit and civic organizations. She was a woman who could get things done, and at the same time, Sr. Carmella had the ability to laugh and enjoy life. Her loving presence will be sorely missed by her community, her family and those who have shared life with her.

Family and friends will be received from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Monday, May 11, 2026 at Mount St. Joseph, 137 Mount St. Joseph Road, Wheeling, WV. A Vigil service will be held at 7:00 p.m. Monday evening.
