ARMISTEAD DAVIS MEAD, III
Armistead Davis Mead, III died peacefully June 12th at his home in Rotonda West, Florida. Born August 20, 1943, he was the son of Mr. & Mrs. Charles P. Meadd of Wheeling, WV.
Davis is survived by his stepchildren, Wendy A Krotow (Michael) and Jason Thoud both of Saratoga Springs, NY; a sister Mary Mead Utt of Roanoke, VA; a brother Robert C. Mead and sisters-in-law Amy Mead of Wheeling, WV and Mary Jane Mead of Charlottesville, VA.
He was preceded in death by his son Armistead D. mead, IV (Adam) and brother Charles P. Mead Jr.
Davis, as he was known, was a 1963 graduate of Linsly Military Institute and attended Bethany College. After serving int he Marine Corps, he began a 50 year career int eh restaurant business and hospitality industry. He started in New York City, moved to Bennington, Vermont and spent the final forty years in Saratogo Springs. There he was involved in several establishments, the most significant of which was Siro’s located adjacent to the famous Saratoga Racecource. Davis became acquainted with several jockeys, trainers and owners and enjoyed telling anecdotal stories about many of them. His calling card simply had his full name, then below that the term “Raconteur”. And that he was.
He relocated to Englewood, Florida in 2012 and worked part-time in several local restaurants before finally ending his 50- year career. The family would like to acknowl,ege his caregiver, Diane Capoferi, as well as his good friends David Eger of Port Charlotte and German Beltran of Arcadia, FL, who in addition to his stepdaughter Wendy and brother Bob were steadfast in their friendshiop to the end.
His life will be celebrated later this summer by his family and friends in Wheeling, WV where he will be laid to rest along with his son in Greenwood Cemetary.
