Captolia Mae “Tola” Kappler, 95, of St. Clairsville, formerly of Wheeling, passed away Sunday, June 21, 2026, in Belmont Manor. She was born on February 4, 1931, in Hannibal, OH, the only daughter of the late James and Thelma (Turner) Van Dyne. Tola was a member of the Kirkwood Presbyterian Church and retired from the Ohio County School System where she was a teacher’s aide for many years. She was a member of The Order of the Eastern Star; Daughters of the Nile; past President of the Island Senior Citizens Center; and volunteered at both Wheeling Hospital and the Good Shephard Nursing Center. Her greatest joy was being a devoted mother and grandmother and spending time with her family and friends.
Tola is survived by her two sons, Barry Kappler, and Brian (Kelly) Kappler; a daughter-in-law, Bonnie Kappler; seven grandchildren, Brent, Brice (Brandi), Brad, Alayna (Craig) Jacobsen, Nick (Amy), Eric Palmer, and Cory (Amy) Palmer; seventeen great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Floyd Kappler; a son, Randy Kappler; and two brothers, O.C. Korte and James VanDyne.
A Memorial Service will be held 2 p.m., Thursday, June 25th, in the 1st Presbyterian Church of Martins Ferry, 400 Walnut St., Martins Ferry, with Pastor David Demarest officiating. Arrangements are entrusted to Wilson Funeral Home, 920 National Rd., Brookside.
