CHARLES MALONEY
Charles “Wayne” Maloney of Wellsburg, WV went home to be with our Lord and Savior on May 31, 2026. We know that he excitedly walked through those pearly gates to join his beloved wife Nancy, with whom he enjoyed 55 years of marriage prior to her passing in 2019.
Wayne was also preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Helen Maloney, his sister and brother Helen and Robert Fryer, his brother and sister, Clarence “Bup” and Rosemarie Maloney, and his nephews and nieces Ritchie Smith, Frank Zaccone, Rebecca Postlethwait, Christina Zaccone, and Lorene Fryer.
Wayne is survived by his sister and brother Gracie and Bill Arbogast, three daughters, Brenda Thomas, Sheila Maloney, and Heather Oliveira, his son-in- law, Vince Oliveira, his five grandsons, Christian, Noah, Nathan, Caleb and Liam, and his two great-grandsons, Koda and Calvin.
Wayne proudly served our country in the United States Naval Reserves. He graduated from Wellsburg High School and then from West Liberty University with a bachelor’s degree in business. He was the first Business Math teacher at Brooke High School when it opened in 1969. He was a life-long member of Franklin United Methodist Church in Wellsburg, and enjoyed countless hours of fellowship with his church family.
Wayne was a well-known and well-respected part of the Wellsburg community. He was many things in his lifetime, including a teacher, farmer, model train collector, and business owner. He and his family proudly owned Maloney’s gas station and repair shop for 52 years. His love of and service to his community and the many individuals and families that came through his business’s door cannot be overstated. They were not just customers. To Wayne, they were his dearest friends. The only things he valued as much as his family and his community were his fishing trips to Canada. You would never find Wayne at home during the first week of Canadian bass season. He was preceded in death by his best fishing buddies Jack, Chuck, Jimmy, and Paul. They will be thrilled to cast lines in the water and laugh at each other’s outlandish stories once again.
Services will be held Thursday, June 4, at Franklin United Methodist Church, Wellsburg WV. Viewings will be from 11am-1pm and 3pm until time of service at 6pm.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Franklin United Methodist Church. Online condolences can be made at ReasnerofWellsburg. com
