LARRY KEENE

Larry Kay Keene, 76, of Proctor, West Virginia, passed away July 8, 2026, after a short illness.

Larry was born on September 6, 1949, in Bristol, Virginia to Robert Lincus Keene and Frances Paris Glenn who both preceded him in death.

Larry graduated from Paden City High School in 1969 and was a volunteer fireman while living in Paden City. Larry was a retired coal miner with Consol for nearly 30 years. He was also a member of the Moose Lodge #931 in New Martinsville. He was a hard worker, a great provider, and a great handyman. He enjoyed listening to Magnolia sports on the radio, followed certain sports around the Ohio Valley, kept up with outside sports of people he knew, and loved watching college softball on TV. He enjoyed spending countless hours recording and producing recruiting tapes for girls' softball players, helping showcase their talents for college coaches and recruiters. He also videoed for Magnolia High School boys' basketball for a period of time. He enjoyed watching and talking to deer while they never ran off. He was a wildlife enthusiast. Every year at Christmas, Larry would put up a Santa on the ladder and move it up a step each day to the chimney for the kids driving by to see. He was known as the weatherman by his family and knew all of the news. He never missed one of his daughter's games from her young age all through her collegiate years. When buying something, he'd buy 3, with keeping one, gifting one, and having a spare. He always made people laugh and had sayings that you've never heard before that you'd catch yourself saying later on. Larry loved his home on Proctor Creek. He loved his grandkids so much and spoiled them endlessly. Lots of tractor rides were had by Pappy.

Larry is survived by his wife, Heidi, of 37 1/2 years, daughter Natasha "Brooke" (Adam) Leonard, of Fairmont, WV, sister Karen (Craig) Abbott, of Sarasota, FL, Robert "Bob/Rick" II (Linda) Keene of Wesley Chapel, FL, and grandchildren whom he loved: Maci, Mia, and Taysen.

At Larry's request, there will be no service. Expression of sympathy may be made www.jarvisfuneralhomes.com.
