DORIS BECKER HANNAN JONES

Doris Becker Hannan Jones, age 102, passed away peacefully on August 16, 2026 surrounded by her family.

Doris was born on February 28, 1924 in Wheeling. She was the only daughter of Wilbur and Elda Friend Becker.

Doris graduated from Wheeling High School in May 1942, and married her high school sweetheart Howard "Pete" Hannan in August 1942, while he was home on furlough from the Army Air Force during World War II. Together they had three children: Donna, Wayne, and Gary. Her beloved Pete passed away in August 1970. Doris married Herbert "Herb" Jones in 1977.

Doris was a lifelong resident of Wheeling. She was always active in her church at Second Presbyterian Church in Wheeling until it closed in 1974. She then became a member of Stone Presbyterian Church, where she served as Deacon, Elder, and the Head of the Hunger Cupboard, a job that she greatly enjoyed doing. Doris was an avid gardener with a "green thumb" and was known for her beautiful yard and gardens of flowers. She was also a wonderful seamstress and the family barber and beautician.

Doris had a great love for her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Holidays at Grandma's house were always chaotic and lots of fun! Doris hosted an annual Labor Day picnic in her backyard for more than 25 years, inviting all her relatives.

In addition to her parents, Doris was preceded in death by her two brothers, Kenneth Becker and Chester Becker; her beloved husband, Pete; her second husband, Herb; and her son, Gary.

Doris is survived by her daughter, Donna (George) Kovatch of Moon Township, Pa.; her son, Wayne (Kathy) Hannan of Wheeling; and four granddaughters: Amy (Rob) Slivinsky of New Market, MD., Julie (Zach) Kessler of Penn Township, Pa., Alison Hannan of Wheeling, Emily Rickman (Brad) of Moundsville; and 10 great-grandchildren: Nathan, Natalie, Andrew, Leah, Molly, Brooke, Karson, Ty, Nolan, and Reid.

A visitation will be held at Stone Presbyterian Church, 25 East Cove Avenue, Wheeling, WV on Saturday, August 29, 2026, from 1 p.m. until the start of the funeral service at 3 p.m., with Dennis Biearman officiating. A luncheon will, follow in the Fellowship Hall, immediately afterward.
