Frances Jean Virden Nolan Forsythe, age 89, of Wellsburg, West Virginia, is no longer homesick for Heaven. She went home to be with the Lord on August 17, 2026.
Jean was a devoted follower of Jesus, and that devotion shaped everything else about her. She believed love was something you were meant to give away, and she spent her life doing exactly that: in the way she welcomed people, prayed for them, and showed up for them, again and again.
Cooking was one of her great loves, and one she passed down to many of us. Ask any of her grandchildren about standing at her side while she made fudge, waiting for the moment she'd let you clean the pot and enjoy the first bite.
Later in life, Jean found love again with Paul Thomas Forsythe. Though they married after their children were grown, there was never a "step" in this family -- only family. Jean is survived by her children, Walt Nolan and Marlena (Todd) Smith, and her late sons' wives, Susan and Patty Nolan. Through her marriage to Paul Thomas Forsythe, she also gained children Rev. David (Michelle) Forsythe; Brenda (Doug) Agnew; and Allen (Michelle) Forsythe.
She is survived by grandchildren James, Kathleen, Tiffany, Ashley, Victoria, Jon, Marlana, Benjamin, Danielle, Rachelle, Justin, and Emily from whom she gained the title "Nan," a title she cherished; and 22 great-grand- children.
She is also survived by Delbert (Jr) Fosset, extended family, and friends who loved her dearly.
Jean was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Thomas Forsythe; her parents, Thelma and Roy Virden; her sons, Jerry, Billy, and Gary Paul Nolan; her daughter, Pamela (Brent) Mercer; and her grandchildren, Jodie, Michael, John, and Bill Nolan.
In lieu of a formal service, family and friends are invited to hold Jean in their hearts, make a meal, and enjoy it with family and friends.
Private family services will be held at the convenience of the family at Reasner Funeral Home 1515 Charles St. Wellsburg, WV
