HENRY FILTER

Henry Edward "Butch" Filter, 78, beloved father, grandfather, uncle, and brother, passed away unexpectedly on August 5, 2026, at UH Geauga in Chardon, Ohio. Born in Wheeling on February 26, 1948, to the late Kesty and Mary Filter, he was preceded in death by brothers Ken and Kesty.

Following his 1966 graduation from Bishop Donahue HS, Butch joined the Navy, serving with distinction to become a decorated Vietnam War (CBs) Veteran earning many citations including a Silver Star. After his service, he was a long-distance truck driver and then owner/operator of Filter's Transmission Service. He belonged to the VFW, American Legion, and St. Jude Parish.

He is survived by companion Alice Glenz and son Johnny; sister Mary Kay Filter Dietrich; sons Shawn and Henry (Angela) Burke; grandchildren Emily and Aidan; treasured nieces Heather (Urs) Batzel and Season (Matthew) Burris; and Isaac and Sarah McCombs who were always there for Butch and are cherished by his family.

Visitation: Wednesday, August 19th, 3-6 p.m. at Grisell's Funeral Home, Moundsville, WV, with prayer vigil at 6 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial: Thursday, August 20th, 11 a.m. at St. Jude Church, Glen Dale, WV. Donations: St. Jude Church, 710 Jefferson Ave., Glen Dale, WV 26038.
