Joann Martha McCormick, 90, of Wheeling, WV, passed away peacefully with family at her side on Thursday, August 6, 2026 at her home.
She was born in Wheeling on April 30, 1936, a daughter of the late Clarence E. and Martha E. (Michael) Auber. As a woman of Catholic faith, Joann embodied the principles of kindness, compassion, and hope. Joann's professional life included her role as a former co-owner of Chas. M. Sledd Co., where she worked for years alongside, James E. McCormick, Sr.
A dedicated mother, wife, grandmother and great-grandmother, her commitment to her family was unwavering. She will be deeply missed by all those who knew and loved her.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by two beloved sons, James McCormick Jr. and Paul McCormick; her four brothers, John, Dick, Bill, and Bobby Auber and two sisters, Donna Baron and Claire Auber.
Joann is survived by her three children, Beth (Jody) Prather, Diane Wojchowski, and John (Patty Huddle) McCormick; her sister, Joyce McDonald; and her cherished grandchildren, Morgan (Jeff Barrett) Wojchowski, Justin Zdonczyk, Tyler (Lexie) Prather, Trey Prather, and Ali (Steven) Yahn. She also leaves behind her great-grandchildren, Ryder, Caleb, Tessa, Preslie, Rowan, Stylee, and Isla, who will continue to honor her memory. Joann's life was enriched by the friendships she formed, including those with her special friends, Pam Earnest, Sheri Arnold, and Kimmy Henthorn and several nieces and nephews.
Her family will celebrate her life and legacy on Friday, August 21, 2026, at McCormick Stables, 225 Equine Dr., Wheeling, WV. A memorial gathering will be held from 4-7 p.m., with a celebration of life at 5 p.m. with Fr. Jeeson officiating.
