Robert Reece Luchetti, Sr., 95, passed away peacefully after a brief illness on August 27, 2026, surrounded by family. Luchetti was a respected general contractor and farmer in Ohio County who played a meaningful role in Wheeling's business, civic, and agricultural affairs.
Born April 19, 1931, in Elm Grove to Wilma Campbell and Albert Luchetti, he attended Triadelphia H.S. and earned a business degree from West Virginia University. After graduating in 1953, he married classmate Adelaide Vieweg Thieroff of Dimmeydale and began serving two years on active duty in the US Army.
Returning to Wheeling, he joined his father in running Luchetti Construction Company in Elm Grove, first as Treasurer and then as President upon his father's death. The company built or renovated many Wheeling area municipal buildings, businesses and churches, most notably the Wheeling City-County Building in 1960 and the JB Chambers Memorial YMCA in 1970. It was a true family business, with Adelaide at his side handling office duties.
Bob and Adelaide built a home on Pleasant Cove Farm outside Triadelphia, where they raised their three children and produced Hereford cattle, Suffolk sheep and crops. Bob served on the Ohio County Farm Bureau for over 50 years; the West Alexander Fair Association; Northern Panhandle Soil Conservation District; and the WVU Extension Service Committee. He continued farming with his son well into his nineties.
Active in civic affairs, Bob served on the Republican Executive Committee and was a founding board member for the Wheeling Ironmen football team. Known for his leadership and construction expertise, he was tapped to serve on the Ohio County Public Service District; Solid Waste Authority; and Wheeling Ohio County Planning Commission. His work contributed to the development of infrastructure for the Highlands retail center.
Bob was a member of Wheeling Lodge #5, Ancient Free and Accepted Masons; Scottish Rite, Valley of Wheeling; Osiris Temple of the Shriners International; Royal Order of Jesters Court #13;American Legion Post #1, Wheeling; and Phi Delta Theta.
Bob and Adelaide were founding, lifetime members of Lawrencefield Parish Church. He was a lifelong hunting enthusiast,making regular, treasured trips to the eastern panhandle to hunt turkey and deer.
Luchetti was widowed in 2014 and is survived by his children: Maj.Robert Reece Luchetti, Jr., (Tery McLaughlin); Adelaide (Addie) Luchetti Olander (Bob); and Dale Campbell Luchetti. Grandchildren: Robert Reece Luchetti III and Andrew Morton Luchetti; Adelaide “Heidi” Catherine Olander (Anna) and Robert Seton Olander; Tyler Mitchell DeLong (Molly), Connor Campbell DeLong (Megan) and Logan Reece DeLong. Great-grandchildren: Theodore Malcom DeLong, Charlotte Maeve DeLong and Ryleigh Noelle DeLong. Also survived by cousin Pete Campbell and sister-in-law Darlene Thieroff.
Friends and family received at Kepner Funeral Home, 166 Kruger Street, on Wednesday, September 2, 2026, from 4-8 pm. Funeral services will be held at Lawrencefield Parish Church on Thursday, September 3, 2026, at 11 am. Interment to follow in Greenwood Cemetery where Wheeling Lodge #5 will conduct Masonic graveside services.
