Tina Colby Majetich, 66, passed away peacefully at her home in Triadelphia, West Virginia, with a house full of her loved ones but not before leaving them behind with excellent hair, a suspicious number of rescue dogs, and no one entirely sure who will now oversee Christmas.
Tina spent much of her life making people look and feel beautiful. Hair, makeup and fashion was her passion! (Yes, girl!) She spent several years as a hairstylist and owner of TLC Salon whilst establishing her fashionista legacy. Tina continued doing hair for Easy Street Productions and Hats Off, and more importantly, remained the family's lifelong and uncompensated hair and makeup department. Weddings, dances, holidays or Tuesday--if you had somewhere to be, chances are Tina had a curling iron or hairspray near your head first. Tina needed a little more spice in her life and ended up living into her days as an office assistant at Braunlich Orthopedics, to which she retired from in 2025.
Tina was endlessly kind, warm, loving and had a particular soft spot for children, animals and apparently anything that needed rescuing. Her home often resembled the Island of Misfit Dogs. There were blind dogs, three-legged dogs, orphaned dogs and the occasional dog wearing a diaper all happily knowing they hit the puppy lottery. Tina rarely met a lost cause she didn't immediately decide belonged in her house or her heart.
Tina loved purse shopping in New York City, Black Friday on QVC and TJ Maxx, where she firmly believed there was always one more aisle worth checking. Paying full price was generally avoidable, and leaving empty-handed was simply a lack of commitment. Hath no worry! Tina has reluctantly passed this torch down to her nieces, especially Annabeth.
Oh, and did she love to open her doors and entertain! Beautiful spreads and always the best pastries! Although cooking it herself was completely unnecessary when there were perfectly good restaurants and bakeries scattered throughout the tri-state area. She would happily drive miles (or send Matt) for the right meal, frequently while ignoring the increasingly urgent requests of her gas gauge. Her tendency to run out of gas was particularly impressive considering it seemed to happen most often on the way to something important.
Christmas belonged to Tina. Her legendary white elephant exchange brought everyone together, and at some point in the evening she would produce lyric sheets and insist the entire family sing Christmas carols. There were no auditions, and participation was not optional.
Her faith was a cornerstone of her life, and she was a devoted member of C3 Church. She lived that faith through generosity, kindness and a remarkable ability to make nearly anyone feel welcome. Her door was always open, there was always room for one more person, and somehow, despite all available evidence, always room for one more dog.
Tina is survived by her husband, Matthew Majetich; sons, Aaron (Cassandra) Majetich and AJ (Stephanie) Majetich; her mother, Bonnie Colby; sister, Tricia Ross; brother, Dan (Shelly) Colby; her beloved grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by several loved ones, most especially her father, Dan Colby, whom she loved dearly and lost far too young.
Tina was undoubtedly the matriarch and glue of a very close family that was her entire world. Her indelible happiness and unwavering ability to make everyone around her feel included, cared for and loved leaves a hole in the center of that family that can never truly be filled--only slowly learned how to live around. Her family will miss her terribly. They will also presumably need to find a new hairstylist, send someone to go to The Elmton to pick up pizza, and figure out who has the Christmas carol lyric sheets.
Services will be held Saturday, August 22, at C3 Church, 250 Bethany Pike Hwy., Wheeling, WV 26003. Visitation will be from 10-11 a.m., followed by services at 11 a.m. and a luncheon at 11:45 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to a local animal shelter in Tina's memory.
And if there happens to be a blind, three-legged, slightly incontinent dog nobody else wants, Tina would probably prefer you just take it home. And if you thought this obituary was long, you've never seen one of Tina's TJ Maxx receipts.
